4 august 2008 - Weymouth, UK - Esplanade. One of the elderly open-top buses that run from Weymouth to the beauty spot of Portland Bill up some fearsome hills – they manage to (just about) get there though. No way to treat an old bus.

This large operator in the north-east of England used to be known as Go-Ahead Northern, but these days is just known as Go-[area], like Go-Northeast or Go-[wherever]. The parent Go-Ahead Group is also involved in running UK train services. This bus is based at Chester-le-Street, near Durham and is obviously here on a holiday trip.

10 august 2008 - Weymouth, Dorset, UK – Esplanade. The Wessex Bus Optare displays an Irish registration (a sure sign that it has been re-registered at some stage), replacing the year-specific English number plate and so concealing the true age of the vehicle. Many operators do this in UK, so they can pretend their buses are quite new.

10 august 2008 - Weymouth, Dorset, UK – Esplanade. A TWB debut for Wessex Bus, a little two-bus operator running market-day services to villages around Weymouth. Unusually, Line 005 is the official route number for this particular service, and not Line 5.

10 august 2008 - Weymouth, Dorset, UK – Esplanade. First Hants & Dorset still operates a number of these elderly Leyland double-deckers in the Weymouth area. 34810 is a relative youngster at just 23 years old – 34540 alongside was built as long ago as 1982.
