21 november 2011 - London Borough of Lambeth, Waterloo. Jedna z osobliwości londyńskiego metra - linia Waterloo & City łącząca jedynie dwie stacje - Bank i Waterloo. Patrząc na to z dzisiejszej perspektywy, taka linia wygląda równie absurdalnie jak most wzdłuż rzeki w Wąchocku, jednak jej przebieg ustalono pod koniec XIX w. i w warunkach wówczas panujących stosunków między różnymi podmiotami (Straphan chyba coś pamięta z tych czasów :P ). Wbrew pozorom chętnych na taką podróż jedną stację nie brakuje. Linia posiada swoją własną miniaturową zajezdnię i praktycznie jest odcięta od reszty sieci. Wagony w razie potrzeby transportowane są w dość niezwykły sposób (link).

21 november 2011 - City of London, Bank. Do kompletu haniebne ujęcie ze stacji Bank, która do 1940 roku nazywała się City - stąd też wzięła się nazwa linii. Przy okazji trochę faktów o linii: długość - 2,37 km, ilość przewiezionych pasażerów w tygodniu (linia kursuje od poniedziałku do soboty) - ok. 190 000, rocznie - ok. 9 i pół miliona, jest to jedyna linia metra w Londynie leżąca w całości pod ziemią.

24 may 2009 - Theydon Bois (Essex). Parę minut wcześniej pociąg opuścił Epping - północny kraniec linii, przejechał już pod M25, teraz przed nim jeszcze ponadosiemdziesięciominutowa podróż do West Ruislip.

24 may 2009 - Central Line, between Roding Valley and Chigwell, Essex. On a lovely may day an empty working runs towards Hainault depot on a very rural stretch of the route operated normally every 15 minutes. The route itself was once a "normal" suburban railway, taken over by London Underground during the "New Works" programme in the late 40s. The eastern portions of the Central Line still feel very much like a railway, thanks to the lovely station buildings and route sections like this one.

20 april 2008 - London Borough of Ealing, Hanger Lane station, western approach. The Central Line always had a special place in my heart - 8-car trains full to the rim scurrying every 90 seconds along the central section, and long straights with 60mph running on the outskirts.

25 may 2008 - London, probably the London Borough of Redbridge, north side of Woodford station. Most of the Eastern section of the Central Line reminds me of a quiet, sleepy suburban railway. And rightly so - until the late 40s this was a regular haunt of steam-hauled suburbans of the Great Eastern Railway.

I know the picture is a bit messy, but it's about the semaphore :) An automated Central Line train passes a semaphore, which regulates the movements of diesel First Great Western suburban, which link this place with Paddington Mondays to Fridays.

24 may 2009 - Central Line, between Epping and Theydon Bois stations. Sadly, the finesse of the French-sounding name of the town appears to be lost on its mainly Essex-accented inhabitants, as well as the lady announcing the stops on the Central Line. On a very warm May day a unit gives it all it's got on its way towards Central London.
