Irannational coaches were the main means of transport before becoming tourism in Romania were imported in 1989. Autocarele Irannational au fost principalele mijloace de transport turistic în România înnainte de 1989. Au fost importate la scurt timp după venirea lui Ceauşescu la putere odată cu lansarea iniţiativei sale de modernizare şi extindere a turismului naţional. Aceste autocare au fost fabricate în Iran la fabrica Iran National (actualmente Iran Khodro) sub licienţă Mercedes. Au fost importate în mai multe serii începand de prin 1967 până în 1975. Principalii beneficiari au fost Întreprinderea de Transporturi Turistice Auto (ITTA) şi parcul de autovehicule al Partidului Comunist Român (nu ştiu exact numele). Clienţii principali erau Oficiul Naţional de Tursim (ONT) şi respectiv Uniunea Tineretului Comunist (UTC). Toate autocarele au fost aduse pe roţi din Iran de către şoferi români. Caracteristica principală a acestor autovehicule a fost fiabilitatea foarte ridicată şi eficienţa în exploatare. Confortul interior al autocarelor era foarte ridicat pentru vremea respectivă. Zgomotul interior era aproape inexistent pe rândurile din faţă. Fiecare pasager avea scaun rabatabil, suport la picioare, cotieră pe ambele părţi, o gură de aer controlabilă şi lumină de citit. Cu toate că nu exista aer condiţionat, temperatura internă putea fi controlată prin nişte fante de aer individual la fiecare pasager precum şi prin cele două turele montate în acoperiş. În plus, la fiecare al doilea rând de scaune se putea deschide geamul lateral. Sigur că în ziua de azi, toate astea par primitive, dar acum 30 de ani era super de lux.
